2. Have a conversation. We should not just talk to them but rather have a back and forth exchanges of ideas or knowledge for them to be able to learn.
3. Speak their language. To be able to speak their language, you must first know who your participants are. Make a research before the training or workshops begin.
4. Let a little bit of you out. Make jokes about how you struggle to learn what you are teaching now. Participants will engage more with a real person rather than with a trainer.
5. Let the conversation linger. Don’t cut off the discussions or conversations quickly. Let the conversation go a little longer and end naturally.
6. Smile. Be energetic. Be happy to be there. Be enthusiastic.
7. Treat people like responsible adults. A little late? Not to worry. If they missed something, their loss. They can make it up. If they have personal issues outside of work, respect that and show them support. Someone who comes back from break late and misses an important part of the course does not need a lecture from you. The consequence is that they missed something important. Remember they are a responsible adult. If they miss something, it’s their loss. It is another story entirely if someone is disrupting the class. That has to be dealt with directly.
8. Ask the class. This is a great way to increase engagement and participation in class.
9. Practice, practice, practice. Have people perform tasks in class and lead discussions. Create activities that can be performed before or after class.
Conclusion:
Having an interactive workshop engages the participant to actively participate in the discussion. Being active helps them to learn more and make friends with others. They can share their experiences related with the discussions with others participants and learn from their experiences also.
