The digitest is a hand-held digital diagnostic device that identifies a vital tooth by stimulating it with a weak current. Vital teeth should sense the mild stimulus long before it causes discomfort. As the operator depresses the button, the strength of the stimulus gradually increases automatically.
Characteristic:
Simply place the digitest's autoclavable tip on the suspect tooth and press the begins to increase at a rate you have preselected (slow-medium- fast). Because there are no sudden jumps in power (as when you twist a knob), the patient feels the stimulus long before it crosses the "pain" threshold. Large LED indicate the strength of the stimulus.
If the patient indicates perception, you simply release the button. The stimulus stops immediately, but the numbers remain frozen on the face for about 5 seconds. Then the device turns itself off( no wasted batteries).
