Hyaluronate Acid for Ophthalmic Surgery

    Hyaluronate Acid Production in Ophthalmic Surgery is a sterile nonpyrogenic, transparent viscoelastic solution of highly purified  hyaluronate acid. Hyaluronate Acid in Ophthalmic Surgery contains 10mg/mL-30mg/mL of high molecular weight (greater than 1 million daltons) hyaluronate acid which dissolved in physiological saline. In the limit of zero shear rate, the viscosity is 105,000 cps (105 Pa s) at 25, and the osmolality is approximately 320 milliosmols.  Hyaluronate acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide composed of sodium glucuronate and N-acetylglucosamine found throughout the tissues of both man and animals. Hyaluronate Acid Ophthalmic Surgery is prepared from the dermis of rooster combs.

    Hyaluronate Acid Ophthalmic Surgery is a sterile viscoelastic preparation supplied in a disposable glass syringe delivering 0.8 mL of hyaluronate acid dissolved in physiological saline. Each mL contains 12 mg of  hyaluronate acid, 9 mg of sodium chloride and q.s. sterile water for injection USP. Sodium hydroxide and or hydrochloric acid are used to adjust pH (if necessary). Hyaluronate Acid Ophthalmic Surgery is sterile filtered and aseptically transferred to syringes. The filled syringes are sealed and the final packaging is sterilized by irradiation. Contents are sterile and nonpyrogenic in unopened and undamaged pouches.

    Pharmacological action
    The polysaccharide is composed of 1,4-β-linked disaccharides of D-glucuronosyl-1, 3-β-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, which molecules in aqueous solution display marked stiffness and very limited configurational flexibility. There is much water in their spongy gap. When the molecules enlarge, the viscosity of the polysaccharide increase rapidly and with density raising, the elasticity of the solution increase correspondingly. Because of the possessing pseudoplasticity, it keeps stable shape in aqueous liquid and possesses the action of protecting cornea endothelium and is most idealest viscoelastic agent for ophthalmologic operation.
